Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed one of the worst-kept secrets in European handball. Roberto Parrondo will become the club’s new head coach from the start of the 2027/28 season, ending a successful spell at MT Melsungen.
Paris Saint-Germain have officially announced that Roberto Parrondo will take over as head coach ahead of the 2027/28 campaign.
The Spanish coach will replace Stefan Madsen after completing his contract with MT Melsungen, where he has transformed the German side into one of the Bundesliga’s top clubs. Under Parrondo, Melsungen won the EHF European League title in 2026, the first major trophy in the club’s history, and also secured qualification for the EHF Champions League.
Parrondo already boasts an impressive coaching résumé. He guided RK Vardar to the 2019 EHF Champions League title before leading Egypt to back-to-back African Championship crowns in 2020 and 2022.
“We are delighted to welcome Roberto Garcia Parrondo to Paris Saint-Germain Handball,” said PSG general manager Thierry Omeyer.
“His experience, high standards and knowledge of top-level handball will be major assets as we embark on this new chapter.”
Parrondo is equally excited about the challenge awaiting him in the French capital.
“It is a leading club in European handball, renowned for its ambition, high standards and strong identity. It is a huge responsibility, but also a challenge that I accept with great enthusiasm,” he said.
The appointment had been widely expected after Parrondo informed Melsungen earlier this year that he would leave the club when his contract expires in 2027. PSG have now made it official, securing one of Europe’s most accomplished coaches as they continue their pursuit of another EHF Champions League title.
