3 things we learned this week: “Bye Gérard, Bundesliga race, & Vipers hot streak”

Vincent Gérard leaves THW Kiel, it’s all about Berlin vs Magdeburg in the Bundesliga, and Vipers are the team to beat right now in the Champions League – that is 3 things we learned this week.

He signed for THW Kiel ahead of this season with the thoughts, from both club and player, to replace Niklas Landin after his successful seasons with the “Zebras”. But the French keeper got injured immediately and did not play a single game for the reigning French champions. And now, his contract with Kiel has been terminated with immediate effect. What happens now with Gérard? The 37-year-old will most likely move back to France and we will just have to wait and see if he can get his career back on track.

Berlin vs Magdeburg

Circle March 10th in your calendars. Then it’s time for SC Magdeburg – Füchse Berlin in the Bundesliga. This game could decide where the silverware ends up this season as both teams are completely even at the top of the table. Flensburg, Melsungen, or Kiel for that matter doesn’t seem to have what it takes to compete with either Mathias Gidsels Berlin och Felix Claar’s Magdeburg.

The first game between the two sides this season was played in the capital back in September, a game that the “Foxes” won, 31–26. Could Magdeburg win at their fortress and in the end win their second league title in three years, or can Füchse win the club’s first-ever league title? Soon we will know, and the game on the 10th of March could decide much of it.

Everyone knows about Viper Kristiansand’s problems off the floor this season. The economic crisis in the club is real, and maybe that affected the players during the start of the season as they did not perform as well as we have gotten used to.

But now Vipers are looking like the hottest team in the Champions League, winning 4 straight games. And who wants to play against the three-time defending champions in the playoffs? That’s right, no one.
