Marketa Jerabkova and Tomas Mrkva players of the year in Czechia

After a vote among several well-informed jury members the back court player Markera Jerabkova and the goalkeeper Tomas Mikva was awarded the prestigious domestic awards. Two players from Champions League contenders and the same winners as last year.

The announcement by handball.cz mentions that Jerabkova´s goal production in Ikast HB plus reaching the final four mattered in finding the winner. Also, Jerabkova brought offensive capacity to Czechia with 63 goals in the World Cup 2023.

Veronika Mala, Bundesliga champion with HB Ludwigsburg and Charlotte Cholevova in Ramnicu Valcea were right behind on the podium.

– From my personal point of view and personal feelings, the season can be evaluated as successful. Whether it was a transfer to another club (from Vipers Kristiansand) and another country, which I consider to this day as the right step and a positive one in my career, then of course the world championship with the national team and qualification for this year’s EURO, says Jerabkova to the federation website.

Mrkva made it three in a row in the Czech competition, thereby equalizing the streak of his club coach Filip Jicha. THW Kiel´s final four performance and the fact that the keeper broke the spell in a quality performance in order for his country to reach the World Cup led the 35-year-old to the prize.

Mrkva´s closest opponents were Matej Klima (SC Leipzig) and Tomas Piroch (Wisla Plock)

– Every victory is special for me and I value it very much. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who voted for me. I approach the award with humility, it is at the same time another commitment for the future, so that a person continues to confirm his performances in the club and the national team, he says after receiving the award.

Michal Bruna from HCB Karvina became coach of the year.
