Can anyone stop Gidsel? EHF reveals right back nominees

The EHF Excellence Awards right back category features one clear headline name: Mathias Gidsel.

The Füchse Berlin superstar enjoyed another spectacular season, leading his club to the Champions League final and once again establishing himself as the most dominant player in world handball.

But the competition is far from weak.

Sporting CP sensation Francisco Costa continued his rapid rise, while SC Magdeburg star Ómar Ingi Magnússon remained one of Europe’s most reliable scorers. Barcelona main man Blaz Janc, Aalborg’s Mads Hoxer and Wisla Plock shooter Melvyn Richardson are also nominated.

The women’s shortlist is equally strong

Györ star Dione Housheer, Brest playmaker Anna Vyakhireva and CSM Bucuresti’s Valeriia Maslova headline the nominees. Ikast’s Stine Skogrand, Odense’s Viola Leuchter and Dijon scorer Adriana Holejova are also in contention.

While the field is loaded with talent, many eyes will be on whether anyone can deny Gidsel another individual honour.
