Stefan Madsen returns to Denmark as HØJ Elite head coach

One of Danish handball’s most respected coaches is heading home. HØJ Elite have appointed Stefan Madsen as their new head coach, handing the ambitious club another major statement signing ahead of the future.

HØJ Elite have officially confirmed that Stefan Madsen will take over as the club’s new head coach.

The appointment marks Madsen’s return to Danish club handball after a spell abroad with Paris Saint-Germain. Before leaving Aalborg Håndbold in 2024, the 49-year-old established himself as one of Europe’s top coaches, leading the club to multiple Danish championships and regular EHF Champions League appearances.

For HØJ, the move is another clear signal of the club’s ambitions. Over the past two years, the club has invested heavily in experienced players and coaching staff in an effort to establish itself among Denmark’s elite.

Madsen said the project was a key factor behind his decision.

“This is an ambitious club with a clear vision for the future. I look forward to helping build something special and contributing to the next phase of the club’s development,” he said after the announcement.

The appointment comes shortly after it was confirmed that Roberto Parrondo will replace Madsen at Paris Saint-Germain from the 2027/28 season, allowing the Danish coach to return home and take charge of one of the country’s fastest-growing projects.
