Danish handball star Rasmus Lauge had to leave Wednesday’s league match between Bjerringbro-Silkeborg (BSH) and Skjern Håndbold due to an injury.
Lauge initially declined to speak after the game, which BSH lost, but has now shared details of the injury.
– I felt a strain in my groin, which I can feel clearly—not that anything popped. But I immediately knew what had happened, Lauge told Danish TV 2 Sport.
The injury comes at a challenging time for BSH, a period when every point counts, making it especially frustrating for the 34-year-old playmaker.
– It hurts. It’s a time when the points don’t just come by themselves, and where we struggle with things. It’s frustrating, and it hurts deep down in my soul not to be able to help the boys there, said Lauge, who saw his teammates play 36-36 against TTH on Sunday evening.
This injury is related to the issue that kept him out of Denmark’s last two national team matches, though he notes it’s not exactly the same problem.
Despite the setback, Lauge remains optimistic about the upcoming European Championship in January.
– As I feel right now, there is no concern about the European Championship and my status there. The main thing is to return gradually and safely.
