Handball star Mathias Gidsel has been named Denmark’s Sports Personality of the Year 2025, becoming the first individual handball player to receive the prestigious award from the Danish Sports Confederation (DIF) and Team Denmark.
Gidsel enjoyed an exceptional year, finishing as the top scorer at the World Championship, being named MVP, and earning a record seventh consecutive All-Star Team selection. He also achieved major successes with his club, Füchse Berlin.
The award was presented on Saturday evening at DR’s annual sports gala in Herning. This year, DIF and Team Denmark also introduced a new Team of the Year award, which was won by the Danish men’s national handball team.
