The 31st edition of the CAHB African Men’s Junior Handball Championship will take place from 9 to 16 September in Mahdia, Tunisia. Eight teams will compete for the prestigious title of African champions.
So far, four nations – Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and Nigeria – have claimed the championship. Egypt and Tunisia have dominated the tournament in recent decades, winning the last 15 titles between them. The last time another nation won the title was in 1990, when Algeria secured their second crown.
The tournament will start with a group stage, where the teams are divided into two groups of four. All teams will progress to the quarter-finals, with group winners facing the fourth-placed teams from the other group, and second-placed teams meeting third-placed teams.
In group A, reigning champions Egypt, who have won the title 13 times, including the last two editions and three of the last four, will compete against Morocco, Guinea, and Mali. Egypt is the favorite to top the group.
Group B features host nation Tunisia, who will face Algeria, Libya, and Rwanda. Tunisia will aim to secure first place in the group for a smoother path to the final, a stage they haven’t reached since 2018.
The group stage will run from 9 to 11 September, with the quarter-finals scheduled for 13 September, the semi-finals on 14 September, and the final and bronze medal match set for 16 September.
This championship also serves as a qualifier for the 2025 IHF Men’s Junior World Championship, which will be held in Poland.
