Al-Ahly and Petro Atlético de Luanda on top in African Club Championship

The traditional tournament of African Club Championship took place for the 46th time. Long time dominants Al-Ahly and Petro Atlético de Luanda marked the occasion to win another title.

In the Women’s tournament in Casablanca Petro Atletico had a successful attempt to defend the first place. According to a IHF report the group stage became an easy ride with 43–21 over Flowers CNSS, a 35–17 over Africa Sport and a 36–23 over FAP Yaoundé.

In the semifinal the favourite from Angola eliminated TKS with a splendid score, 40–14.

The final was a completely different story as Al-Ahly had a halftime lead and held on to a drama in the last minute. Petro Atlético managed to keep cool and triumphed with 24–23.

Al-Ahly experienced a similar route without tension in the group stage and ran over FAP Yaounde in the semifinal, 37–14. The other men’s semifinal saw the host team Montada defeat Red Star by 33–24 and set up for some home support in the gold game.

However, in play Al-Ahly pushed on for their eighth title overall and left Montada no chance in the 31–20-game.
