FTC and Győri share the spoils after dramatic Budapest showdown

The two title contenders remain unbeaten in the Hungarian league after a pulsating 30–30 draw in Budapest. FTC came agonisingly close to victory, but Dione Housheer levelled in the closing seconds before Elizabeth Omoregie hit the post with the final shot.

The Elek Gyula Arena provided the setting for one of the biggest fixtures of the Hungarian women’s league season on Saturday, as FTC-Toyota Kovács hosted defending champions Győri Audi ETO KC. Both sides entered the seventh round unbeaten in the league, and neither was willing to give an inch in a fiercely contested encounter.

FTC made the stronger start, racing into a 7–3 lead after ten minutes. The hosts repeatedly threatened to establish a four-goal advantage, but Győri fought their way back and ensured the teams went into half-time level at 14–14.

The second half brought even more twists. FTC struggled to maintain its earlier momentum, allowing Győri to take control for periods of the game. The visitors eventually moved two goals clear at 26–24, putting the hosts under considerable pressure.

However, FTC responded with a strong spell of their own, setting up a thrilling finish. The home side looked to have the upper hand when it led 30–29 in the closing stages, but Győri had one final answer.

With the clock running down, Dione Housheer found the net at 59:51 to make it 30–30. FTC had nine seconds to produce a winner, but Omoregie’s final attempt struck the post, leaving both teams with a point.
