Swedish podcast speculates: Per Johansson on his way to Odense?

Could Per Johansson be on his way out of Györ? In the latest episode of the Swedish handball podcast Avkast, Boden’s Emil Berggren suggested that the Swedish coach could be a candidate to take over at Danish powerhouse Odense next season.

Johansson and Györ have enjoyed an excellent start to the season. The Hungarian side currently lead their domestic league with a perfect record, while they share top spot in Group B of the Champions League after drawing against French opposition Metz.

Despite their strong start, speculation about Johansson’s future has emerged in Sweden. In the latest episode of Avkast, a Swedish podcast covering handball, the coach’s name came up after he praised Odense goalkeeper Johanna Bundsen in the media.

That prompted Emil Berggren, sporting advisor at Swedish top-flight club Boden, to suggest that Odense could be a potential destination for Johansson next season.

– Odense have a lot of money and high ambitions. They will most likely go after Per Johansson, Berggren speculated on the podcast.

The theory is partly based on potential changes to the financial landscape in Hungarian handball following the country’s change of government. According to Berggren, the changes could have a significant impact on clubs’ budgets.

– There is a new government in Hungary that will introduce very different taxation, which could have a major impact on the clubs’ budgets. Rumours suggest that a lot is going to happen in Hungary in the coming period, and Per Johansson’s contract appears to expire at the end of this season.

There is no confirmation that Odense are interested in Johansson, nor that the coach is considering leaving Györ. For now, the link remains speculation but is currently an interesting one to keep an eye on.
