Aalborg Håndbold will be without Niklas Landin for up to two weeks and Lukas Nilsson for four to six weeks after the pair suffered injuries, adding to the club’s concerns over Sander Sagosen’s continued absence.
Aalborg Håndbold have been dealt a double injury blow ahead of Wednesday’s EHF Champions League clash with HC Zagreb, with goalkeeper Niklas Landin and Swedish backcourt player Lukas Nilsson both set for spells on the sidelines.
Landin sustained a deep cut to one of his fingers during Saturday’s Danish league victory over KIF Kolding. The injury occurred in the closing minutes when a shot from a Kolding player brushed his finger as he made a save. The wound required stitches, and Aalborg’s medical staff expect the Danish goalkeeper to be out for up to two weeks while it heals.
The absence of Landin will give Swedish goalkeeper Fabian Norsten an opportunity to take on greater responsibility. The club also confirmed that U19 goalkeeper Mikkel Jæger will join the senior squad to provide cover during the coming training sessions and matches.
New injury for Nilsson
Nilsson faces a considerably longer spell out of action. The former Swedish international has suffered a groin injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for four to six weeks, following an examination on Monday. The setback comes just as Nilsson had returned from a calf injury that kept him out during pre-season and the opening part of the campaign.
Aalborg are also still waiting for Norwegian star Sander Sagosen to return. The backcourt player is making progress in his recovery, but the club says he is not yet ready to play, and it remains too early to give a precise timeframe for his comeback.
The Danish champions host HC Zagreb at Sparekassen Danmark Arena on Wednesday in round four of the EHF Champions League group stage, with Landin and Nilsson both unavailable.
