7-against-6 rule could be set for major change

Could the 7-against-6 rule be about to change? According to Handnews, the IHF is considering testing a modification or possible removal of the rule at the 2027 Youth and Junior World Championships.

The use of seven outfield players has become an important tactical weapon in modern handball, but its future is now being discussed within the IHF.

According to Handnews, the IHF Council is expected to discuss the possibility of testing changes to the rule in January. One option could be to trial a modified version or remove the possibility of playing 7-against-6 altogether at the Youth and Junior World Championships in 2027.
