Team Esbjerg have reportedly pulled off one of the biggest transfers in Danish women’s handball, signing Danish international Julie Scaglione from Ikast Håndbold with immediate effect.
With just over a week until the new Danish season begins, a major move is shaking up the league. According to TV 2 Sport, Team Esbjerg and Ikast Håndbold have reached an agreement that will see Julie Scaglione move to the Danish champions immediately. Neither club has commented on the report so far.
The 21-year-old left back still had one year remaining on her contract with Ikast, but will now join the reigning Danish champions after a spectacular 2025/26 campaign.
Scaglione finished last season as the Danish league’s top scorer, scoring 225 goals in 37 appearances. She has also established herself as a regular in the Danish national team.
The timing of the transfer makes the move particularly striking. Scaglione is currently sidelined with a broken wrist suffered in a pre-season match in early August and was initially expected to be out for two to three months. When she returns, she will join an already formidable backcourt at Esbjerg with Henny Reistad, widely regarded as the best player in the world.
The move also marks a significant change in direction for both clubs. Esbjerg have been looking to strengthen their backcourt ahead of another season with ambitions in both Denmark and the Champions League, while Ikast lose one of their most important attacking players.
Scaglione will not be available when Esbjerg open their season against Odense Håndbold in the Danish Super Cup on August 23. But once she returns, the reigning champions could suddenly have another major weapon at their disposal.
