One of Danish handball’s biggest stars could be heading home. According to reports from Rygtebørs, Magnus Saugstrup is expected to return to Aalborg Håndbold in the summer of 2027.
A major transfer story is making waves in Denmark. According to information published by Rygtebørs, Denmark captain Magnus Saugstrup is on course to rejoin Aalborg Håndbold, the club where he made his breakthrough before moving abroad.
The move is reportedly planned for the summer of 2027, although no official confirmation has been made by either club.
Saugstrup left Aalborg for SC Magdeburg in 2021 and has since established himself as one of the world’s premier line players and defensive specialists. During his time in Germany, he has helped Magdeburg win multiple major titles, including the Bundesliga and the EHF Champions League, while becoming a cornerstone of both club and country.
What makes the rumour particularly notable is that Saugstrup remains under contract with Magdeburg until 2029. According to Rygtebørs, however, Aalborg are working on a deal that would bring the Danish international back to North Jutland two years before the expiration of his current agreement.
If the move materialises, it would represent a major coup for Aalborg, who would be bringing home one of the most accomplished players in Danish handball.
