Veszprém crowned Hungarian champions after sweeping rivals Pick Szeged

One Veszprém are Hungarian champions once again after defeating rivals Pick Szeged 36–34 away from home to complete a 2–0 sweep in the championship final series.

The victory seals another domestic title for Veszprém and ends Szeged’s hopes of defeating their biggest rival and becoming champions.

After winning the opening match of the series 38–36 on home court, Veszprém travelled to Szeged knowing a second victory would secure the championship. The visitors made a strong start and established a three-goal lead at halftime, taking a 19–16 advantage into the break.

Szeged fought hard to stay in contention and repeatedly closed the gap during the second half. The home side managed to level the score on several occasions and kept the atmosphere alive inside the arena, but Veszprém consistently found answers whenever momentum appeared to be shifting.

In the decisive stages, the visitors regained control and held their nerve to close out a 36–34 victory and with it the Hungarian title.

For Pick Szeged, the defeat brings an end to another strong season that included a deep run in Europe and a place in the domestic final. The club highlighted the fighting spirit shown by the players after battling back from an early deficit, but ultimately acknowledged that Veszprém proved more clinical in the key moments.

The title adds another trophy to Veszprém’s remarkable domestic collection and ensures the club finishes the season as Hungarian champions once again.
