The search for a new head coach of the Norway men’s national handball team is intensifying, with Kristian Kjelling and Børge Lund emerging as leading contenders.
According to VG, the race to replace outgoing head coach Jonas Wille is beginning to take shape, with several strong names still in contention.
Among them, former internationals Kristian Kjelling and Børge Lund are currently viewed as two of the most prominent candidates. The pair recently faced each other in the Norwegian playoffs, where Kjelling’s Drammen side edged Lund’s Elverum after a dramatic, extended semi-final encounter.
Lund, who is under contract with Elverum until 2026 and has prior experience as an assistant with the national team, is considered a particularly strong option. At the same time, Kjelling brings long-term continuity and leadership from his decade in charge of Drammen.
Everything is open
The process, however, remains open. The Norwegian Handball Federation is said to still have a shortlist of candidates, including experienced profiles such as Thorir Hergeirsson and other Scandinavian coaches.
With Jonas Wille set to step down after the upcoming qualification matches against Turkey, a final decision is expected in early June.
