3 takes after Denmark–Iceland: “Crazy atmosphere, job (almost) done & heroic Iceland”

Crazy atmosphere, job (almost) done, & heroic Iceland – here are Ola Selbys 3 takes after Denmark defeated Iceland, 31–28.

Crazy atmosphere

I can’t even compare the atmosphere in Malmö to how it was in Herning tonight. It was like two different sports. The Danes know how to create amazing atmosphere and the few Icelandic fans who got tickets for the game did their best as well, screaming Áfram Iceland whenever they could.

Job (almost) done

They were pushed to the brink by an amazing Icelandic team who fought until the end. But ultimately this Danish team did what they usually do: win handball games. When it matter the most the best players stepped forward and guided their team to victory, and to the final. Job almost done for the massive gold favourites.

Heroic Iceland

Noone should be surprised but this was a heroic performance by the Icelandic players. Playing in Herning in one of the toughest places to play against one of the best teams of all time – and pushing them to the brink – nothing short of sensational. And very typical Icelandic. Ultimately it ended in heart break, but the Icelandic players should be proud of themselves after this performance.
