It turned into a highly dramatic battle between Portugal and Norway. The match swung back and forth, and after 60 minutes the scoreboard read 35–35. A result that does little to help either team in their pursuit of a semifinal spot.
With two points in the table, both Portugal and Norway were in desperate need of a victory. That urgency showed, as the game was evenly contested from start to finish. Norway controlled much of the first half, with left wing August Pedersen in red-hot form as he continued his impressive scoring run.
Despite scoring 18 goals in the first half, the Norwegians led by only one at the break against a fighting Portugal. The second half followed the same pattern — extremely tight. The lead changed hands repeatedly, with neither side able to gain a decisive advantage.
For Portugal, Luis Frade stepped up in a big way, finishing with eleven goals. He was a key reason why Portugal took a 35–34 lead with just minutes remaining. Norway equalized on the next attack, and once again the match was level with one minute left to play.
Both teams then had one final chance to attack, but neither could convert. Instead, they had to settle for a point each — a result that leaves their semifinal hopes hanging by a thread.
