W17 Euro – Switzerland to quarterfinals

A slight surprise occurred in Podgorica when Switzerland became the first team to advance to the quarterfinals. The undefeated team after four games had no problem distancing Hungary by 39–30.

The first day of Main round action saw Switzerland dominate yet again. The left wing player Lauryn Mierzwa was definitely in victory mood, scoring 16 times on 17 shots as an unstoppable force versus Hungary. While Hungary had some hopes at half-time (18-16) it soon became evident that Switzerland could power through for two deciding points.

The rest of the seven places for the next round are still up for grabs, though Croatia will be hard to pass with maximum points in group I. Some twists and turns didn’t change the fact that Croatia had the upper hand in the last minutes against France and cheered for 27–25.

In group G all teams had one point from the start. Denmark and Germany continued the trend of ties with 28–8 but Slovakia secured the win over Spain to clinch the first place before the Tuesday match-ups, Germany–Spain and Slovakia–Denmark.
