Egypt achieved huge success, winning an historic first title in African Women’s Junior Championship. After extra time in the tight semifinal Egypt fought off Guinea to lift the trophy, IHF concludes in the tournament report.
The four nations involved in the medal games had a relatively easy route to advance. Angola had to bounce back in the group stage but controlled the deciding game, 23–16 over the host nation Algeria.
In the playoff phase, Guinea overcame a nervous start to eliminate Tunisia, producing a strong 18 goals after the break to 28–22. Angola and Egypt entered overtime with 21–21 on the board and Egypt celebrated after 26–25 ten minutes later.
All four nations had already secured qualification to next year’s U20 World Championship, but Angola wanted revenge and captured bronze via 26–22 in the duel versus Tunisia.
In the final, Egypt turned out to be the squad to keep a winning streak. This time after a second half push with focus on defense and important goals to 25–22 over Guinea.
In 21 previous editions Egypt had three silver medals, with a positive trend in reaching the final both 2022 and 2023.
