Denmark and France lead medal race in W19 Euro

After five match days, 24 starting nations has become eight medal contenders in W19 Euro in Montenegro. The classic handball city of Podgorica host the championship with quarter-finals coming up on Thursday.

As one of the solid teams so far, France concluded the Main round with an unthrilling 31–24 performance against Austria. Blandine Gros put all seven attempts in the net from the right wing position while Romane Gindro and Leane Gonzalez alternated between the posts with success to keep France well ahead.

Denmark had a tight run with a second half comeback to reject any victory hope for Hungary. In the deciding minutes with less than 15 minutes to go, a 6–0-effort made Denmark secure yet two vital points while producing goals from a lot of positions.

The quarter-final draw sees a change of revenge for Austria versus France, Denmark bring positive feelings to a repeat against Hungary and the host nation duel with Germany to reach medal matches in the weekend.
