The African Women’s Junior Championship is well underway. With eleven teams in duel for the title Egypt and Tunisia plus Algeria and Guinea still have maximum points.
The reigning champion, Angola had to face a rare loss in the group stage as Guinea dominated in the second half of a 26–21 premiere win.
Angola has had some revenge, over Kenya and Mali and stand as one of three teams on two points around midway in the preliminary round. Two teams in each group make it to the semifinals, so the games between the host Algeria and Guinea plus Algeria–Angola will have much to say for the outcome.
In group A, Egypt and Tunisia both have a steady course towards the medal weekend. While Egypt has won all three games by 23 goals or above, Tunisia kept in control with 16–9 and 17–14 in each half against third-placed Ivory Coast.
The championship is played for the 22nd time, Angola has won precisely half of the previous titles.
