On Friday, the 2025 Women’s World Championship saw a dramatic upset as Sweden were eliminated ahead of their final game – while Denmark, Norway, Brazil, and Hungary all advanced as expected, securing their spots in the quarter-finals.

Friday was a pivotal day at the 2025 IHF Women’s World Handball Championship – full of strong performances, surprising twists, and clear qualification battles.

Brazil beats Angola, ending Sweden’s quarter-final hopes

Brazil cruised past Angola 32–26, taking control in the second half with clinical finishing and solid defensive work. The victory secured Brazil’s quarter-final place regardless of their final Main Round game against Norway, and meant Sweden could no longer reach the quarter-finals even before facing South Korea and Angola. The Scandinavian side will now aim to finish their Main Round campaign on a positive note.

Denmark, Norway and Hungary advance as expected

Denmark and Norway have advanced with perfect records so far. Norway impressed once again with a solid win over Czechia, while Denmark overwhelmed Switzerland 36–23. Hungary battled Japan to a tense 26–26 draw, securing their quarter-final spot.

With these results, four quarter-final places are now secured. Denmark, Norway, Brazil and Hungary still have one game left, which will decide the group winners. Sunday’s group finals will see Denmark face Hungary and Norway take on Brazil.
