Germany and Spain completed favourite efforts on opening day. Uruguay proved no match for Serbia followed by the long awaited WC debut for Faroe Islands. The small island brought 200 fans and enthusiam, hampered by Montenegro who won 32–27.
In the first ever worldwide championship game, the unexperienced side relied on the international routine from well established actors in the danish league. Pernille Brandenburg provided steady shots and Jana Mittun showed creativity to get passed Montenegro´s defense.
The overall efficiency was still too low to bother Montenegro in the long run. Being two goals down at half time, the leading team added even more pressure to a 19–14 advantage and Armelle Attingre between the posts stopped any plans for Faroe Islands to come back.
Spain has renewed the squad and will face larger obstacles than Paraguay who fell behind early in the first half of the championship. Serbia powered through against Uruguay while the host nation, Germany kept control against Iceland with a much stronger capacity overall. Alina Grijseels scored seven times, one behind Brandenborg in the top goalscorer list.
