The long awaited World Championship on home ground starts Wednesday night for Germany. The host nation has a lot to play for, not excluding the huge bonus that the players will be awarded for at least a quarter final spot.
– We feel valued, says the team captain Antje Döll to the federation website.
Germany faces Iceland in the premiere in Stuttgart with Uruguay and Serbia as opponents in the following group games. Three further games, in Dortmund is expected with strong support and Germany also has the quarter final in the same arena in the if all goes well-plan for the tournament.
DHB reports a significant raise of medal winning and top spot bonuses has been agreed. As such, gold for Germany would give the team an extra €425,000 – Silver €300,000, bronze €200,000, and fourth place €100,000. If Germany is eliminated in the quarterfinal stage the team would still achieve €50,000.
Even so, the Men’s world cup team in January could compete for higher amounts, which DHB explains:
”The amount would have been fully covered by sponsorships and IHF bonuses. In the women’s tournament, the German Handball Federation (DHB) will contribute a six-figure sum in the event of maximum success”.
– After the adjustment of daily allowances at the beginning of the year, this bonus arrangement sends another strong signal. Above all, however, sporting success is paramount in the coming weeks – we are investing everything to fulfill our handball dreams at this tournament, says Döll to the federation website.
