Helle Thomsen works full time with Denmark

The announcement of Helle Thomsen leaving CSM Bucharest was by no means an uncalculated move. Just a few days later, the Danish Handball federation presents Thomsen as a full time national coach.

Thomsen had an ongoing contract with the CL side but the decision to part ways came half way into the agreement. For Denmark, the experience suddenly became available for a full time job.

– I had been looking forward to becoming a full-time national coach next summer, and now I get to take the plunge today. It’s a fantastic opportunity that I’m both proud and grateful for. I’m looking forward to delving even deeper into the work with the players, the team and the entire environment around the national team, Thomsen says to the federation website.

After previous stints with Sweden (bronze in Euro 2014) and Netherlands (three championship medals) Thomsen will coach her home country for the first time during a training week and an international game against Iceland in September.

The 54-year-old succeeds Jesper Jensen as coach for the Danish women’s national team.
