The home sides had a notable advantage in the result column of the opening night in Euro 2026 qualification. Faroe Islands became the exception by achieving triumph in the Nordic derby versus Iceland.
After a tight first half, Faroe Islands dominated and took the lead with three-four goals. Jana Mittun and Pernille Brandenborg distributed a lot of successful shots between, the centre back and the pivot had a lot to do with the end result, 22–24 and the first victory ever for Faroe Islands versus Iceland.
Group 1 had two clear winners as Croatia´s home crowd spurred their team to 25–17 over Finland and Kosovo posed no threat to a slightly rebuilt France.
Montenegro joined Faroe Islands with two points in group 4 and Djurdjina Jaukovic and her teammates overpowered the opposition from Portugal.
Austria was not pleased by allowing 30 goals from Israel but the offensive outcome, 39 goals meant that the red and white team could close down the game early.
A total of 24 nations compete in the qualification. In April 2026, top two in each group plus the four best third-ranked teams will acquire tickets to the championship.
