Vipers chairman: ‘Closer to a solution than bankruptcy”

The Norwegian top club Vipers is hoping for a new rescue package. A decision will be made on Sunday regarding whether the club will survive or not.
We are closer to a solution than bankruptcy, but that’s because a national group has expressed interest, says Vipers’ chairman to Norway’s TV 2.

Vipers needed 25 million Norwegian kroner, equivalent to around 2 million euros, by Friday to avoid bankruptcy. Now it seems that one last hope remains.

– The board meeting has decided that we will use the weekend to consider a concrete offer that came forward just as the meeting began, says chairman Peter Gitmark after a board meeting on Friday afternoon, according to NRK.

– They have no connection to Vipers or the region. They want Vipers to survive. That’s the basis for the negotiations. I am incredibly glad they have stepped in, he says.

Gitmark also states that there is a group of local investors still interested in contributing.

The team’s players were supposed to receive their salaries today. The chairman confirmed to NRK that they have not been paid. Gitmark says the club hopes to pay the salaries as soon as possible.

On Sunday, a new board meeting will decide whether Vipers will survive or be forced into bankruptcy.
