Vincent Gerard starts coaching in Metz

Vincent Gerard proved his capacity and mindset in many championship games for France. The next challenge for the formidable keeper? Gerard was announced as goalkeeper coach for Metz HB.

Gerard ended the player career after the Olympics in Paris, though Barcelona brought him back to sort out an injury-ridden situation. In the summer, the 38-year-old has resettled in Metz, which makes the city’s CL club an ideal choice.

– Having always been from Metz, Metz Handball is an institution in handball, not just women’s, with 27 French championship titles. I wanted to contribute and be able to work with this great team, he says to the club webpage.

Metz starts 2025/26 with two newcomers in the goalkeeper team, Catherine Gabriel (Debrecen) and Sabrina Novotna.

– We are very pleased with Vincent’s arrival on the Metz Handball staff. We had already started discussions last season, but it didn’t come to fruition, and so today, officially, we are very pleased with this.

– Vincent will be able to bring his top-level experience to the entire team, the players, the coaching staff, and especially the goalkeepers. His mission will be to support our goalkeepers throughout their training week with a variety of content, says the Metz coach Emmanuel Mayonnade to the club website.
