Tabea Schmid was a huge resource for Switzerland during the nation’s World Cup debut. In the last game of the tournament the pivot suffered in an ominous incident. After further examination the federation website confirms a ”serious knee injury”.
After several seasons abroad, Schmid got another boost in the move from Copenhagen to Team Esbjerg before 2025/26. In the World Championship, Schmid scored 39 times with both six meter and seven meter capacity.
Now the 22-year-old faces a recovery period of between nine to twelve month, according to the federation report.
”Examinations in Switzerland confirmed the suspected torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). She also sustained a minor medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury and a meniscus contusion”, writes Handball Schweiz.
