Rikke Iversen expectant mother – ends the season

Rikke Iversen in Team Esbjerg won´t take part in the final games against Odense HB starting this week. The reason is happy circumstances, the 32-year-old pivot is pregnant.

Esbjerg´s homepage reports the family news as Iversen takes an extended break from handball.

– We are incredibly happy and look forward to meeting the little new person at the end of the year. That feeling is the most fulfilling for us. But it would also have been great to be there for the last few weeks of the season for the big games with the girls, Iversen says to the website.

Iversen was also missing during the Final four event in Champions League where Esbjerg secured a bronze medal.

For Esbjerg as a team the pivot position will be completely different from the start of next season, with Iversen´s timeout added to Kaja Kamp and Merel Freriks leaving the club.

The replacement so far announced is strong enough, Tabea Schmid (Copenhagen) and Olivia Löfqvist (Storhamar).

– In addition, we will think about what Rikke’s absence means for the squad composition, and whether it gives reason to act, says the coach Tomas Axnér to the club website.
