Metz made history in Budapest by defeating CSM Bucuresti 32–27 in the first semi-final. In the second semi-final, defending champions Györi booked their place in the final with a dramatic 31–30 victory over Brest Bretagne.
After a tense and even start, Metz gradually took control of their semi-final. The French side led 17–13 at halftime and continued to put pressure on CSM throughout the second half. Fast breaks and efficient wing play proved decisive as Metz pulled away. A key figure in the victory was Johanna Bundsen, who recorded 17 saves and also scored two goals. The win secured Metz a place in the EHF Champions League final for the first time in the club’s history.
The second semi-final turned into a thriller. Brest led by two goals in the 46th minute and looked on course for the final, but Györi refused to give in. The match was marked by physical play and two red cards in the first half, with Brest captain Onacia Ondono sent off before Györi’s Bruna de Paula also received a direct red card just minutes later.
With Brest still leading 30–29 six minutes from time, the defending champions seemed destined for elimination. However, goals from Kristina Jörgensen and Kelly Dulfer completed a late comeback, and Györi held off Brest’s final attack to secure a third consecutive appearance in the final.
On Sunday, Metz will chase their first-ever Champions League title, while Györi aim to lift the trophy for a third straight year.
