Győr hold on in goal thriller against Odense

Győr secured two important points in the EHF Champions League. In a tight contest, the Hungarian side edged out Odense 32–31.

With Gloria Bistrița close behind in the standings, two important points were at stake as Győr travelled to Denmark to face Odense. Per Johansson’s side got off to a difficult start as the home team came out with high intensity and raced into a 5–1 lead.

However, Győr quickly recovered. Tjaša Stanko found her rhythm in attack and scored four goals in just a few minutes to bring her side right back into the match. The visitors gained momentum as the first half progressed and, after a strong finish, went into the break with a three-goal lead.

Győr remained in control for most of the second half, but Odense refused to give up and managed to stay in the game. With just eight minutes remaining, Matilda Westergård scored to level the game at 28–28, setting up a dramatic finish.

When it mattered most, Győr tightened up defensively and regained control of the game. Despite Odense’s late fightback, the visitors held on for a crucial victory. The win puts Győr three points clear of Gloria Bistrița in the battle for second place in the standings.
