The German champion and CL contender HB Ludwigsburg faces major issues on the financial side. The club webpage states that the company has filed for insolvency.
In a huge blow, legal proceedings affect the future of the successful club. While Ludwigsburg writes that ”The club’s operations will continue unchanged for the time being”, the development rises several questions.
To explain the scenario, a failure to complete sponsorship negotiations has left Ludwigsburg in a huge crisis.
– In recent weeks, we were engaged in very promising negotiations, but their sudden cancellation deprived us of our economic foundation, says the managing director Sebastian Götz to the club website.
In less than two months, Ludwigsburg is scheduled to meet Brest Bretagne HB in the season premiere of Brest Bretagne. It seems an open question whether the German club can enter the 2025/26 season.
As a result, EHF demands further insight to the matter.
”The European Handball Federation has requested the club as well as the interim insolvency administrator to provide information on the club’s financial situation until Monday, 28 July”, writes EHF in a statement.
