Cristina Neagu faces career end

Romanian Handball and CSM Bucharest have no more than half a year to adapt to the loss of a major star. Cristina Neagu retires from professional handball at the end of 2024/25, after confirming the news in a TV interview.

PRO TV had a prominent guest Thursday evening. And Neagu spent no time beating about the bush for her announcement.

– I have an important message for handball lovers and especially for the people who have supported and followed me throughout my career. I have decided that at the end of this competitive season I will retire from the handball activity, she said to the TV channel.

The power shots from the left back rendered Neagu four awards as IHF World Player of the Year. Since returning from an adventure abroad (Buducnost 2017), the 36-year-old has performed for CSM Bucharest in many Champions League campaigns, coping with several injuries.

Now Neagu enters somewhat unchartered territory in her career, playing one last season.

– I don’t know if there is necessarily a single reason, there are several reasons, I think this moment comes in the career of any athlete, but I don’t want it to be sad news for handball fans at all. I want this season to fully enjoy every match I play, both at home, in Bucharest, and in the cities of the country, she explained the decision in PRO TV.
