Champions League: Intense matchups ahead

The EHF Champions League Women 2024/25 is heating up as the competition enters a critical stage. With decisive matches scheduled this sunday, teams in both Group A and Group B are fighting to secure their positions in the standings.

CSM Bucuresti heads to Denmark to face Nykøbing Falster Håndboldklub with renewed confidence following a dominant 36–23 win over Krim that ended a four-match losing streak. With standout performances from centre back Elizabeth Omoregie, who ranks as the second-highest scorer in the competition with 70 goals, CSM is determined to maintain their upward trajectory. Meanwhile, Nykøbing, despite showing some resilience in recent games, continues to struggle defensively, having conceded a competition-high 295 goals. Their last encounter was a narrow 27–26 victory for CSM, and the Danish side will look to improve on that performance to climb out of the bottom of the group.

Storhamar and Krim face off in a critical Group A matchup, as both teams look to secure valuable points in the fight for playoff positions. Storhamar, tied on six points with CS Gloria 2018 BN, ended a three-game losing streak with a draw against Nykøbing in their last match and are eager to gain momentum. Krim, however, finds themselves in a dire situation with six consecutive losses. Veteran Ana Gros remains Krim’s most reliable weapon, having netted 56 goals this season, but the team will need a stronger collective effort to bounce back. With only two points separating the teams in the standings, this game could prove decisive for both sides’ playoff ambitions.

In Group B, Rapid Bucuresti faces a formidable challenge against Team Esbjerg. Rapid, stuck in their longest-ever losing streak with eight consecutive defeats, recently suffered back-to-back record-breaking losses. Their opponents, Esbjerg, are in red-hot form, remaining unbeaten in their last 17 matches across all competitions. Led by Henny Reistad, the competition’s top scorer with 87 goals, Esbjerg is aiming to consolidate their position in the quarter-final race. A win for the Danish side would also give them an edge in their ongoing battle with domestic rivals Odense for a top spot.
