Brest Bretagne show their strength against Odense

Brest Bretagne Handball delivered a dominant performance in the Match of the Week, defeating Odense Håndbold 40–31 to keep their perfect record and top spot in the standings.

Odense started well with solid defence, but once Brest hit 16–13 in the 21st minute, momentum shifted. Led by Clarisse Mairot — the Player of the Match with six goals from eight attempts — the French champions pulled away, punishing Odense’s attacking mistakes. Despite Odense’s strong offence this season, they managed just 17 first-half goals against Brest’s powerful defence.

In the second half, Odense tried to fight back, with Thale Rushfeldt Deila scoring seven goals, but playing without a goalkeeper proved costly as Brest scored several easy goals into an empty net. Pauline Coatanea added six goals from seven attempts, helping secure the nine-goal win.

Brest’s complete team effort and tactical discipline sealed Odense’s first defeat of the season and confirmed the French side’s position as early favourites in the competition.
