Veselin Vujovic was let go from Iran in the autumn of 2023. Subsequently the nation was led by interim coaches and failed to qualify for the World Championships 2025. IHF reports that a successor has been found — Rafael Guijosa Castillo.
Around a decade ago, Guijosa secured a bronze medal with the Iran men’s team in the Asian Championship.
The local federation might hope for a similar boost as the Spanish coach returns to re-establish some confidence.
Guijosa recently worked for Rwanda with both the senior and youth national team. His appointment in Iran makes the 55-year-old the fourth coach in five years for the aspiring handball nation.
