Both Denmark and Sweden report damaging injuries just a few days before the Euro premiere. Daniela de Jong is withdrawn from the Swedish squad while Denmark can’t count on Simone Petersen as a reserve.
The final rehearsal weekend took its toll on the nordic selections. Daniela de Jong´s back injuries prevented the playmaker from taking part in the games against Poland and follow-up examinations left no hope for any Euro experience.
– It is very sad news for Daniela, who is once again forced to leave the squad in connection with a championship. It is also a hard blow for us as a team as we lose an in-shape player who has had a strong autumn in terms of play, says the coach Tomas Axnér to svenskhandboll.se.
De Jong´s playmaker colleague Petersen had to cancel the Olympic plans due to a foot injury. Any possibilities of a comeback in the red and white jersey for Euro 2024 was tragically dismissed after another blow.
– Simone Petersen injured her elbow during a hard tackle in the match against Romania. Further investigations have subsequently shown that Simone Petersen is to start a rehabilitation process, her club Ikast HB wrote in social media.
