Nykøbing Falster snatched an unexpected home draw against Danish rivals Odense in the EHF Champions League opening round. The standout performance came from Clara Lerby, who delivered a stellar 12-goal display to help secure the surprising result.
Lerby set the tone from the opening minutes, beating international teammate Johanna Bundsen in the Odense goal to put Nykøbing on the board early. The winger maintained a firm upper hand in their early duel, scoring consistently from the wing, fast breaks, and 7-meter throws to build a comfortable lead for the home side.
However Odense gradually fought their way back. Despite early defensive struggles against Lerby, the visitors found their rhythm, and a strong push early in the second half allowed the favorites to take control and take the lead on the scoreboard.
But Nykøbing refused to back down. With just a minute left on the clock, Lerby stepped up once again to fire home her 12th goal of the match, leveling the score at 27–27 and capping off a dramatic finish.
