Linus Persson reunites with his former coach Magnus Andersson. The right back has signed for the Portuguese top club FC Porto.
– It was not a difficult decision to choose FC Porto, says the 31-year-old on the club’s website.
After two seasons with GOG, it is now confirmed that Helsingborg-born Linus Persson is leaving Denmark for Portugal.
– I had a good conversation with Magnus Andersson, whom I have known for many years since he coached me in Sweden’s youth national team. When he called me, it was very easy to see this club as my new home, says Persson.
In Porto, he will not only have a Swedish head coach, but he will also be teammates with Swedish goalkeeper Sebastian Abrahamsson.
– He (Abrahamsson) reached out to me when he found out I was coming and sent me a message asking if I needed any help. It was a nice gesture from him that I really appreciate. He asked how I was doing and how my family was, and also gave me some information about how we train and what Magnus is like as a coach. I was very happy with what I heard and am looking forward to next season, says Persson.
In total, Persson has scored 75 goals in 46 senior national team appearances. He was also part of the team that won World Championship silver in 2021 and European Championship gold in 2022.
