The European Handball Federation (EHF) is saddened to announce the death of Morten Stig Christensen, the President of the Danish Handball Association (DHF), who passed away on November 1 due to a cardiac arrest at the age of 65.
Christensen joined the DHF as Secretary General in 2007 and was later appointed President in 2021.
– Morten Stig has always been a person driven by the will to develop handball further while having great skills balancing all interests in the process. His death is a sad and tragic loss for European handball, said EHF President Michael Wiederer.
Under Christensen’s leadership, Denmark hosted several major events, including the Women’s EHF EURO in 2010, the Men’s EHF EURO in 2014, and the Women’s EHF EURO in 2020. Throughout his career, he held significant positions within European handball, including membership in the Nations Committee Men, the Nations Board, and the Professional Handball Board.
We extends its heartfelt condolences to Morten Stig Christensen’s family and friends during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Morten Stig.
