Denmark’s provisional squad presented – Landin included despite retirement

With the 2026 Euros just around the corner, the nations have presented their provisional squads for the tournament. Nikolaj Jacobsen has selected his 35 players, with a few surprises — one of them being Niklas Landin, who previously retired from international handball.

With just over a month until the tournament begins, all nations have now selected their 35-man squads. Denmark, who will host the tournament together with Norway and Sweden, hopes to continue its international domination.

Head coach Nikolaj Jacobsen has chosen a squad that includes a long list of world-class players, with stars like Gidsel and Pytlick standing out.

– I have tried to put together as broad a squad as possible, so that we are covered as well as possible if the unfortunate happens and an injury occurs. Fortunately, I have many talented players to choose from, Jacobsen told the Danish federation.

But the Danish squad also contains a few surprise names, with the biggest one being Niklas Landin. The goalkeeper is included despite having retired from international handball — but only as a backup.

– He is by no means available for the entire final round, but because we are playing at home, Niklas has agreed to be available if something should happen towards the end of the tournament, Jacobsen explained.

The head coach also raised a few eyebrows by including Thomas Arnoldsen. The centre back is currently out with a broken tibia and is expected to be sidelined for up to twelve weeks. Despite that, Jacobsen has included the player in case a late cameo in the Euros becomes possible.

– If the rehabilitation goes well, there is a small hope that Thomas could be called up during the tournament if the need arises. You can always use his qualities, but he is not intended for any major role. I am simply keeping the possibility open if he should be ready to participate to a small extent towards the end of the Euros
