A true player veteran steps into action as team manager for the German women. Anja Althaus was appointed by the national federation which hopes to boost the input in the upcoming championships.
Althaus was on the pitch for 243 games in the German jersey between 2002 and 2014. Her continuous work within handball has been going on well after the active career ended in 2018.
– This task is a huge honour. Playing in the national team myself was always the greatest thing for me. Now being able to work for Germany and our national team again fills me with pride and great joy. I want to pass that on and convey it, she says to dhb.de.
The bronze medal of 2007 with Althaus performing as pivot is Germany´s latest international medal. Althaus starts providing advise with the Euro 2024 in Austria in mind, next year the World Cup is arranged on home soil.
– This is another step in the professionalization of our women’s national team.
– I’m delighted that Anja Althaus is returning to us after many years on the international stage and that she is bringing her energy to our national team in a new role – both internally and in public, says the federation president Andreas Michelmann to dhb.de.
