Sweden qualifies for the European Championship

Sweden has secured qualification to the 2024 European Handball Championship. This was confirmed after the team defeated Iceland with a score of 37–23 on Saturday, thus standing with the maximum eight points after four rounds.

Just like on Wednesday’s match against Iceland, Sweden’s performance was hardly glamorous in the beginning. Iceland got off to an excellent start, scoring the first four goals of the match. However, Sweden gradually improved and managed to equalize to 8–8 after 15 minutes.

Sweden fought hard in both defense and offense and soon took over the lead. The Swedish players utilized their speed and created several excellent opportunities. The match unfolded similarly to Wednesday’s game, and Sweden could go into halftime with a score of 18–11.

Sweden got off to a much better start in the second half. Iceland occasionally showed flashes of brilliance, but Sweden remained in control throughout. The Swedish players executed their transition game effectively, and the two points were never in jeopardy. All Swedish players contributed to the score sheet, and Sweden ultimately won with a score of 37–23.

The victory means that Sweden has eight points after four rounds. This signifies that the spot in the European Championship is secured.
