HK Alingsås have pulled off a major upset in the Swedish Cup, beating top-flight side Skuru 25–19 to reach the final. The second-division team produced an outstanding defensive performance and are now just one game away from lifting the trophy.
Alingsås had already made major headlines in the quarter-finals, where they knocked out top-flight side Önnereds HK to reach the last four. But with another defensive masterclass, Alingsås managed to produce another shock result.
With the crowd behind them Alingsås started the game by completely shutting down the Skuru attack. After 20 minutes, the away side had managed just four goals. However, the visitors improved towards the end of the first half and reduced the deficit to just one goal before the break.
But Alingsås regained control after the restart. Their defence continued to frustrate Skuru, with goalkeeper Hanna Eriksson putting on a real show. Alingsås gradually pulled away and secured a convincing 25–19 victory.
The result sends Alingsås into the Swedish Cup final, where they will face either IK Sävehof or Skara HF. The second-division side are now just one game away from a remarkable cup triumph.
