BM Torrelavega was up for a battle but Barca managed to keep up with the challenger. After impressive saves by Emil Nielsen and show stopper shots from Dika Mem, Barca could lift the Copa de Espana trophy with a three-goal-margin in the final.
Looking at the local league table, Barca will very likely win in the long run once again. Still, BM Torrelavega was determined to try if just for one game in the prestigious cup final.
Javier Munoz and Isidoro Martínez threatened the red, yellow and blue dominance and Barca’s lead was slowly but surely reduced in a strong Torrelavega period in the second half.
From 24–18 to 24–22, Barca was disturbed but Nielsen’s saves allowed the leading team to play on without equaliser scares. Hampus Wanne and Mem made the final bid for the reigning champion until 37–34.
Taking into account both the newly established Copa de Espana and the predecessor Copa Asobal, Barca celebrated the 14th title in a row.
