The final games of Copa del Rey will be played during the weekend. In the quarterfinals Barcelona scared off the surprise threat from Atletico Valladolid easily but Bidasoa Irun had to use extra time to eliminate Torrelavega.
Barcelona cruised to victory with superior speed and the attacking duo Aleix Gomez and Melvyn Richardson left no chance for Valladolid to challenge.
The reigning champion will face Huesca who disposed of a higher ranked team, BM La Rioja among the top eight. A five goal lead with 15 minutes to go gave Huesca a good boost which led to the semifinal via 28–25.
Alcobendas from Madrid reached the final weekend after beating three sides from Liga Asobal. The quarterfinal opponent, Ademar Leon proved too hard but Alcobendas gave it a try being four goals up in the first half. The difference in quality became visible after the break and Ademar Leon could save some resources while confirming 36–27.
Bidasoa Irun and Torrelavega met up for prime Friday action, including extra time. A last minute goal from Jakub Prokop kept the game alive for Torrelavega but the Nieto brothers (Gorka and Asier) presented themselves with renewed force to increase the lead for Bidasoa Irun after 60 minutes was passed.
