Barça win 15th straight Liga ASOBAL title

Barça have won the Liga ASOBAL – again. The league title marks the Catalans’ 15th consecutive championship.

The league is officially called Liga ASOBAL – but in the Spanish media, it’s often referred to as Liga Barça. And it’s not hard to see why.

Despite two unexpected defeats in the league, the club has secured its fifteenth straight title. On Friday evening, the Catalans defeated Helvetia Anaitasuna 39–25, making the gap to Granollers impossible to close.

So far this season, Barça have won four domestic titles and haven’t lost a national competition since 2013, when Atlético Madrid claimed the Copa del Rey.

As reigning European champions, Barça still have both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League ahead of them. In the quarterfinals, they’ll face Hungarian side Pick Szeged, with the first leg on April 24 and the return leg on May 1 – the final hurdle before the Final Four in Cologne, which is now the team’s main focus.
